Mount Royal Airpark is a picturesque, gated community located on the St. Johns River three miles south of Welaka, Florida and is home to many airplane enthusiasts. With a 3,000-foot lighted paved runway, the private airport (3FL0) at the center of the community, can accommodate most light general aviation aircraft allowing easy access into this charming community. Boat slips are also available, so Airpark residents can explore the numerous freshwater springs along the banks of the historic river. On May 7, 1973, Mount Royal was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. It is recognized as an archaeological site close to where the St. Johns River exits from Lake George in Putnam County, Florida. The historic site, owned by the State of Florida, is located within the Airpark and is on a one-acre parcel consisting of a large sand mound and several nearby middens. It is not uncommon to see a great variety of wildlife from eagles, turkeys, blue birds, deer, fox squirrels, and the occasional sighting of black bear. This is truly a great place to live!
