Mount Royal Airpark is a scenic, gated community located on the St. Johns River, three miles south of Welaka, Florida. It is home to many aviation enthusiasts. At the heart of the community is a 3,000-foot lighted paved runway (3FL0), which accommodates most light general aviation aircraft, providing easy access to this charming neighborhood. Residents also have access to boat slips, allowing them to explore the numerous freshwater springs that line the historic river.
On May 7, 1973, Mount Royal was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. It is recognized as an archaeological site near the point where the St. Johns River exits from Lake George in Putnam County, Florida. The historic site, owned by the State of Florida, is located within the Airpark and spans a one-acre parcel consisting of a large sand mound and several nearby middens.
Wildlife enthusiasts will appreciate the variety of animals that can be spotted in the area, including eagles, wild turkeys, bluebirds, deer, fox squirrels, and occasionally even black bears.
